Having a house built for us was somewhat of a spontaneous decision, but since we had specific requirements that we couldn’t seem to find on the market, it was the right move. We did our research and chose Dugan’s crew based on the very high reviews we had gathered. From the first time he met with us to go over our thoughts and present some options, we could tell he was a builder who cares about quality and delivering the best product for his clients.
His entire crew is outstanding – including all subtrades. You can tell there is a strong working relationship between everyone, seemingly enabling work to flow seamlessly. Everyone was incredibly professional, friendly, and made excellent suggestions – especially for people who aren’t overly great with interior design (us). There were so many suggestions and thought put into items we may not have thought about until after the fact – things like big windows and headroom are standard features, not special requests. Their pride of workmanship is evident by their impeccable attention to detail (for example, we were notified of a chip in the tub that was going to be repaired and it took us nearly 30min to find the chip!). It was such a delight to not only receive updates, but also be able to see the progress as we were not only welcomed to visit the site but encouraged to do so regularly. The work site was always tidy and secure.
Dugan is honest and direct. He never pressured us on decisions but gave us all the information to do so. He makes the process very straightforward, handling all the background coordination while involving you to make your selections and adjustments.
All in all, we are incredibly pleased with the process and the house. We would not hesitate to recommend Dugan and his crew!

My wife and I began the custom build journey in 2020 after exhausting our search for a viable family home. Friends of ours had their forever home build by Dugan a number of years previously and we were impressed by the quality of the home, clever features, and attention to detail. We reached out to Dugan to discuss available lots and the overall build process. He took the time to walk us through what we could expect and encouraged us to ask any questions we had at the time. Dugan put our fears to rest with his thoughtful and insightful replies, backed up by decades of experience in the custom home building industry. The pandemic threatened the build with material costs/availability and schedule volatility, but Dugan kept us informed as much as possible. The project broke ground in the second half of 2022 and continued, steadily, through to early 2023. Unlike many builders out there, Dugan welcomed frequent visits to the site and encouraged steady engagement between him, his staff, and us. His dedicated crew of young professionals worked tirelessly, were courteous, kept the site immaculate, and, quite frankly, were outstanding to work with. They were always happy to answer any questions we had and we never felt like we were an inconvenience or unwelcomed. The build was kept on schedule and there was daily progress at the house. Without a doubt, this was accomplished due to everyone’s hard efforts and constant behind-the-scenes management from Dugan and his family/staff.
Now, my wife and I are grateful to live in our beautiful forever home where we can happily raise our children. This home was meticulously built by talented professionals who are passionate about what they do. We cannot express our gratitude to Dugan and everyone involved in the build enough. We built our first ever house with Dugan and his crew and I have only good things to say about our whole experience. From the design phase where they helped us choose between different products and building methods to the actual building where the attention to detail and craftsmanship was present at all stages, we could see that they really cared about the project. Being onsite so much also let us see the unmatched quality of their workmanship, and attention to detail, from foundation to trim. The team works with and organizes the sub-trades like a well oiled machine, and you get to interact directly with them to explain what you want.

When we decided to have a custom home built, we quickly came to the realization that Dugan Hawkins is the premiere builder in this area of the Ottawa Valley. Business owners who deal with building supplies and subcontracting work informed us that Dugan’s homes are of excellent quality and his standards are very high. Early on in our meetings with Dugan, he recommended that we speak with previous clients of his, which of course we did. The previous clients we had the opportunity to speak with were unanimous in their opinion of Dugan, his crew and his product. The crew is professional and highly skilled, and their quality of work is of the highest calibre. During the design and consultation process, Dugan listened carefully and he advised us on various design options to improve function, aesthetics and feasibility. All of his opinions were backed up with pros and cons, and the final decision was left to us – pressure was never felt by us as his clients. During the build process, Dugan recommended we visit the site as often as possible, not only to see the build but to also ask questions or be asked questions ourselves related to unforeseen design issues or decisions on options available to us – we were always welcome at the site. Any design change consideration was accompanied by a cost impact (if any) plus or minus, and the reasons for considering the design change. We were impressed by the fact that Dugan never implemented a change without consulting us first – we had the final word. Dugan uses local subcontractors to the maximum extent possible, and we are very pleased with the work done. They have worked with Dugan for many years and one can see the excellent relationship that Dugan has developed with his subcontractors.
This was our first custom home and we couldn’t be happier. We hired Dugan and his team to remodel an old looking bathroom, upgrade the kitchen with a new range, and intall a hood where there was none previously. Dugan was very attentive to our needs and the vision we had for the finished look. He had mouldings made to look like the rest of the house's mouldings to preserve uniformity of style - a detail we are extremely grateful for. Throughout the demolition and reconstruction, I always knew of the work being done the next day and I could plan accordingly (I work from home). The new bathroom offers all the comforts of modern life but has a timelss look that goes well with our Victorian home. We could not be happier with the results.

There was hardly a day where activity wasn’t happening and it was exciting to return home every evening and see the progress. Dugan Hawkins Built a two storey, 2,600 sq. ft. house for us with attached double garage during the fall of 2015 and winter of 2016.
Throughout the project, Mr. Hawkins was a steadfast professional and pleasure to work with. He was honest and patient in his communication, always ensuring my husband and I were notified of progresssion and any plan deviations.
Mr. Hawkins' craftsmanship was evident throughout construction. Early on, he recognized the look and feel we were trying to attain in the house, and he was quick to make valuable design suggestions that greatly added to the house's style. This was notable in his suggestions for trim and baseboard, as well as a simply stunning decorative ceiling pattern.
Subcontractors, who had never worked for Mr. Hawkins before, made a point of commenting on the quality of his work and the superior nature with which the "little things" were done.

We hired Dugan and his team to remodel an old looking bathroom, upgrade the kitchen with a new range, and intall a hood where there was none previously. Dugan was very attentive to our needs and the vision we had for the finished look. He had mouldings made to look like the rest of the house's mouldings to preserve uniformity of style - a detail we are extremely grateful for. Throughout the demolition and reconstruction, I always knew of the work being done the next day and I could plan accordingly (I work from home). The new bathroom offers all the comforts of modern life but has a timelss look that goes well with our Victorian home. We could not be happier with the results.

We couldn’t be happier with the addition to our home and it was everything we hoped for. The whole project was done on time. There was hardly a day where activity wasn’t happening and it was exciting to return home every evening and see the progress. Dugan kept us updated every step of the process and guided us when decisions needed to be made and was open to our suggestions and alterations along the way. This was your crew’s work site but they were always respectful that this was our home and that we had to live here throughout the project. They did their best to keep the mess and interruptions to our life to a minimum and tidied up the site regularly. The kitchen, mudroom, laundry and walk-in closet exceeded our expectations and Dugan’s attention to detail and quality work means that the addition blends seamlessly to the existing house and suits the period of our home.
